An automated functional test station is a production machine that exercises an assembled part through its real operating range and verifies that every measured parameter falls within spec. Unlike a leak tester (which checks containment) or a pass-through gauging station (which audits build state), a functional tester actively runs the product and grades its behavior.

How a functional test station works

- Power-up and self-check — the station verifies fixture continuity and isolation before applying test voltages.
- Sequenced stimulus — the controller applies the test profile (voltage ramps, motion strokes, pressure pulses, load steps) per the recipe.
- High-speed data capture — DAQ records every channel against time, then computes derived values (settling time, slope, RMS, peak current).
- Limit comparison — each measurement is graded against high/low limits; rules-based logic decides pass, reject, or rework.
- Unload and sort — the fixture opens, the part routes to pass, reject, or rework, and the serialized record pushes to MES in real time.
